From the Road by ROD - Mobile, Alabama

We woke up this morning to more sunshine

Last night I had my first full night of sleep since we got on the road. I walked over to the lobby hoping to grab some stale muffins and a cup of coffee. The stale muffins never happened, since breakfast had been done for an hour. I went back to the room to get my shit together, and as I loaded it in the trailer I noticed that a hack circle had formed on the sun-drenched parking lot. This stuff is addictive. Pete is the hack king. Pepe McFiesta. Me, not so much.

After a quick breakfast stop at a Waffle House, we headed to Mobile, Alabama. We had no idea what to expect. It was our first time there, and we weren't expecting a lot. Who goes out on a Sunday night to check out an out-of-town band of anthem-yelling derelicts? Quite a few people do, we came to find out.

It all started after sound check, when some of us went to a pizza joint down the street where beers were being served to a chill crowd – on the sidewalk! A couple of us ordered beers and hung out. We eventually met the staff there – Angie, Ryan, James. They took us in and treated us like kings. We invited them to the show, and they invited us to the sweetest after party ever. Beer, pool, pizza, and most of all: amazing hospitality. Mobile, Alabama redefined my idea of feeling welcome.

Of course, I omitted the fact that the whole band almost got electrocuted on stage tonight. It didn't happen to me, so I'll leave this to someone with first hand experience.

We have a driving day tomorrow. Next stop Texas.

See you there,

-Rod.
